Where do I fit in?
Whatever you do work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord not for men, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving. Colossians 3:23 24
Where do I fit in? Have you ever asked that question?
I was a junior at WLHS and was pursing a portable D.J career, but felt this tugging at my heart to pursue the ministry. I spoke to a Pastor about my recent feelings. He told me that being a Pastor was no fun. He went on to say that you have to miss a lot of family time due to writing sermons, counseling, attending meetings, and funerals. Confused by his answer, I trusted him, and went on my way of life.
It wasn’t godly. Sixteen years of my selfish, sinful behavior, sporadic church attendance, and neglect of God's Word is the life I lived.
Binge drinking on the weekends, addicted to porn, self-centered, busy with my personal goals, desires, and job etc... The devil had me believing the lie that as long as I attended a weekly worship service I was following God's will for my life.
Sunday morning, hungover, and failing to keep a promise to my gracious wife to join her for church, I walked out of the house to the brisk fall weather and retrieved the morning paper. My wife pulled out of the driveway and attended church by herself. I went to open the door, and she had locked me outside. BRRRR!
There was no other way in, so I waited on the front porch until she arrived home. The door was open, we didn't say a word to each other as I packed up my bag, simply instructed her to get a lawyer because we were getting divorced!
Angry, upset, as I drove to Louisville KY that afternoon.
This is hard to explain, I could only tune in one channel on the T.V in my truck that night as I ate my dinner. It was an evangelist preacher speaking about God loves you no matter where your at in life. It was that night that God and His means of grace rescued me from my spiritual captivity. The Holy Spirit picked me up by helping me remember my baptism, dusted me off through Christ's death and resurrection, and moved me into an entirely different direction of God’s affection through the cross of Christ!
